SETUP A OPEN VPN SERVER IN AZURE CLOUD FOR FREE !!

INTRODUCTION :

In this Blog i am not going to run through concepts of VPN but will show you how to setup a VPN server in Azure cloud and connect 2 devices to this server for free!!

I am assuming you already have an Azure account setup if not , you can set up an Azure account for free where you can enjoy 12 months of free services .!! Follow this link

Step 1 :

I already have a Resource Group setup in Azure named as tejasdevrg.If not you can create a Resource Group by navigating to the Resources section in the Azure Portal.

Step 2:

1. After creating a Resource Group , create a Virtual machine in the created Resource group . I am naming the name of my VM as MyOpenVPN.
2. Now, in the Image section select See all images.

3. In the Marketplace section search for openvpn and select OpenVPN Access Server.

• Select Review+Create and download the .pem file so you will be able to SSH into your VM.

Step 3:

• Copy the Public IP and SSH into your Virtual Machine .

• After SSHing into your VM ,Click Enter Multiple times to Install all the Packages .

Step 4:

• Logout from your VM and then SSH back in. Now you need to Reset your admin Password as follows.

• Open a new Web Browser and type in the following.

https://<public IP>:943/admin

• Username : openvpn
• Password : <Password you set earlier>
• Click on Agree

Step 5:

• Navigate to VPN Settings on the Navigation pane on the Left section.

• Now select Should client Internet traffic be routed through the VPN ? to YES

• Click Save and select Update the Running Server.

Step 6:

• Open a new Web Browser and type in the following.

https://<public IP>:943

• You are now logged in as the Client to your Open VPN Server. You can download the Open VPN software any of the following OS or Platform.

• After Installing the Software . You will be able to login to your Server by providing the public IP as follows.In any of the above shown Platforms.
• Username : openvpn
• Password : <Password you set earlier>

This is how easily we can setup an OpenVPN server and connect two devices simultaneously and stay anonymous for free !!
